I don't mean to be disrespectful to Ms Salonga and her fans but I don't
think she is right for the role of either Elphaba or Glinda.
Her voice lacks the range and stamina for either roles. The role of
Glinda requires a strong operatic soprano voice at times and the role
of Elphaba requires strong belty vocals and a wide range.

I would cast her as Nessarose at best.
The only reason reason that Lea would be cast as either Elphaba or
Glinda on Broadway would be her immense popularity and her impressive
resume. If she was unknown and auditioned for the show, she would
probably be considered for the role of Nessarose.

Maybe she could get away with playing Elphaba at some regional theatre
or if Wicked was staged in the Philippines.
Possibly on an Asian tour as well.

After having the opportunity to see and hear Lea sing both "Popular"
(Glinda) and "Defying Gravity" (Elphaba) during her Carnegie Hall show, and
hearing her sing "For Good" with Jennifer Paz on Jennifer's "Awakening" CD,
I must respectfully disagree.

Lea had acknowledged that her voice was not quite up to what was needed for
Elphaba, but that she was working on it. It showed at Carnegie Hall. Lea
was tremendous and proved that she has the range and power to play either
role perfectly.

I'd love to see it happen.

No offense taken, Wicked fan. Your comments have been noted but
I think you are incorrect in your assessment.
We feel Lea *can* do the Elphaba role. Nessarose is a minor role.
And, there will be no regional production in Manila.

yeah..i also think that she'd be great for the part.

and she IS pregnant..that may be the reason why her voice is not that
STRONG/ edgy.

she'll be great.

I, on the other hand, would like to see her play Glinda. The role has
more breadth and depth, and when played well, steals the show. Kristin
Chenoweth's performance, which was better reviewed overall, is a prime
example.
